Calamity Day Learning
 

Upon completion of the assignments, students will need to complete the Calamity Day Learning Log (see link or ask for one from your homeroom teacher). Parent signature is required on this form. Forms should be submitted within 10 days of the calamity day in order to be marked "present" for that day. Thank you and please let us know if you have any questions.

Day One

Reading

Read your book envelope book.

Practice your high frequency words (see tab above).

Make a list of words you know.

 

Math

Count by 1's and 10's to 100.

Challenge-Count by 2's and 5's to 100.

On a sheet of paper, answer the following prompt:

Show as many ways as you can to make the number 7.

(example: pictures, words, number sentence, tallies, etc.)

 

Writing

Write a story about what you did on your day off.

Be sure that your picture matches your words.

Remember:

     Start with a capital letter.

     Leave spaces between your words.

     Use punctuation at the end of your sentence.

     Make sure your sentence makes sense.

Challenge work:  Write two sentences or a short story.

 

Science/Social Studies-

Go to abcya.com and explore social studies and science sections for at least 15 minutes.

If you do not have computer access, please have your child choose one:

Get a bowl full of snow from outside. Time how long it takes to melt.

                                                          Or

 

Get an ice cube out of the freezer. Put it in a bowl and time how long it takes to melt.

 

Specials

Choose a special to complete by going to the Art, Music, P.E, or Technology online classroom.

Reading
Read your book envelope book.
Practice your sight words (see tab above).
Practice spelling your sight words.
Examples:

  • Write words in shaving cream.

  • Paint the words with a Q-tip and paint.

  • Build words with magnetic letters.

 

Math
Count by 1’s and 10’s to 100.
Challenge-Count by 2’s and 5’s to 100
Go on a shape hunt around your house and record your findings with pictures and words.


Writing
Write letter to your teacher about your favorite thing at school.
Remember:

     Start with a capital letter.

     Leave spaces between your words.

     Use punctuation at the end of your sentence.

     Make sure your sentence makes sense.

 

Science/Social Studies

Go to abcya.com and explore social studies and science sections for at least 15 minutes.

If you do not have computer access, please find an American flag. Count the stars and stripes. Practice reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.
